About Harrisburg
Harrisburg is the county seat of Dauphin County, situated on the east bank of the Susquehanna River, minutes from Hershey, and 105 miles from Philadelphia. The city is rich with history, having been at the heart of the Civil War.  During the 19th century Harrisburg was a notable stopping point along the Underground Railroad where escaped slaves would be fed, given supplies, and transported across the Susquehanna River. Harrisburg was also a major training grounds for the Union Army in the Civil War and was a crucial link between the Midwest and the Atlantic, making it a major target for General Robert E. Lee.

Attractions
The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agriculture exposition in the United States and has been held in Harrisburg every January since 1917. Harrisburg is also home to the nationally renowned annual Auto Show, a large display of new classic cars. The National Civil War Museum is a relatively new museum that strives to display the Civil War without bias toward the Confederate or the Union. Exhibits cover events from 1850 to 1876 with a large focus on 1861 to 1865. Inside, there are over 24,000 artifacts, photos, documents, manuscripts and other prints.  Nearby parks include the Gifford Pinchot State Park and Memorial Lake State Park.

Education
Within 40 miles of the city, there are 23 post-secondary schools, among which are Elizabethtown College, Penn State Harrisburg, Widener University at Harrisburg, Harrisburg Area Community College, and Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. The Harrisburg School District operates 17 public schools from pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Among the schools is SciTech High, which integrates math and science course materials with programs at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. Over 11,000 students are enrolled in these premier schools.
